Upon arrival at Kotoka International Airport in Accra, Ghana, you will be transferred to your hotel in East Legon.
East Legon is an upscale suburb of Accra and only a quick 15 minute ride from the airport. It is home to many restaurants, shops and a great late-night atmosphere.
After breakfast at your hotel, enjoy a morning walking tour of Jamestown, one of the oldest settlements in Ghana with a rich history of European influence. Dominated by Usher Fort and Jamestown Lighthouse (1871), this area boasts a lively fishing industry together with the bustle of urban life.
Lunch ($) will be had in the Osu area and in the afternoon, pay a visit to Osu Children's Library where you will have the opportunity to read with the local children.
Enjoy an early morning breakfast at your hotel then depart for the town of Odumase to visit Cedi Bead Factory. There, you will learn how to make your own glass beads using traditional methods. Beads are an important part of traditional Ghanaian culture and have been used in various ceremonies for over 400 years. Lunch ($) will be had on site.
In the afternoon, take a tour of Akosombo Dam, the largest source of electricity in Ghana, on the shores of Lake Volta - one of the largest man-made lakes in the world.
Today, after breakfast, head out to Wli Falls, the highest waterfalls in Ghana and one of the highest in West Africa. Enjoy a peaceful 30 minute walk through the forest over 9 bridges which cross the Agumatsa River led by a local guide and have the opportunity to see numerous species of birds, butterflies, antelope and fruit bats. Swimming is an option. Picnic lunch at the Falls.
After lunch ($), you will be taken to Tafe Atome Monkey Sanctuary where a walk through the forest will enable you to see several different families of Mona Monkeys. The guide will entice them to come close to eat bananas or peanuts right out of your hand.
Once you've had breakfast, you'll be driven to the town of Dzodje to witness a traditional drum and dance ceremony of the Ewe Brekete Society. This is not a ceremony that is normally shown to tourists. This spiritual music and dance connects the participants to their ancestors. The society members are always happy to answer questions our tour participants may have. Lunch ($) will then be had in Sogakope before you return to Accra.
Today, after breakfast, you will catch a flight (approx. 1 hour) to Tamale in Northern Ghana. You will have lunch ($) at Woodin Cafe and then be driven to Mole National Park.
Enjoy an early morning safari (walk or drive) in Mole National Park where you will get a chance to view elephants, monkeys, deer, warthogs, birds and butterflies.
Lunch ($) will be at the lodge and then head out to the village of Nanton to watch a traditional drum and dance of the Dagbamba people as well as meet with the village chief. Mud houses with thatched roofs make Nanton an intriguing place to visit, again, not normally visited by foreign tourists.
This morning, you will visit Tamale Art Market and then catch a flight (approx. 1 hour) back to Accra. You will be driven west from Accra to your resort on the Atlantic coast.
Today, you will be given a morning tour of Elmina Castle. Built by the Portuguese over 500 years ago, it played an important role in the Transatlantic slave trade. In the afternoon, you have the option to visit the longest canopy walkway in West Africa at the top of the rainforest in beautiful Kakum Nature Park, spend time in the town of Elmina or relax at your hotel.
Have an early morning breakfast at your hotel and then head to the town of Axim. Lunch ($) will be had in Takoradi. The rest of the afternoon can be spent in leisure at your lodge where you can enjoy a rejuvenating massage, the private bay for swimming or a walk down the beach to meet the local fishermen.
Take a drive to Nzulezu, Ghana's only town on stilts With a population of around 500, this entire village is built on stilted houses above the Amansuri Lake. Take a 45 minute canoe ride through lush canals that opens up to a beautiful lake. After the canoe ride, visit the birthplace of Ghana's first president, Kwame Nkrumah, in Nkroful and see the mystical Subre River.
After an early morning breakfast at your lodge, begin the return drive to Accra. Stop for lunch ($) at an open-air restaurant outside of Cape Coast Castle which overlooks the ocean.
Today, after breakfast, attend a morning performance of Ghana's National Dance Ensemble. The afternoon will spent at leisure in Accra and in the evening, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight back home.
